4 Practical Tips to Stay Comfortable During a Chartered Fishing Trip

Admin • Nov 10, 2021
A chartered fishing trip offers extended time on the water, a unique fishing experience, and a very memorable way to spend the day. Instead of going into the trip blindly, do a little preparation to make the most out of the trip. Use the following tips the next time you book a chartered fishing trip.

1. Bring Head Protection

When you are out on a chartered fishing trip, you can't easily block your body from the sun. You will often have direct sunshine shining down on you for most of the day. Even if you look down, the sun reflects off the water and creates intense rays.

One of the basic accessories to bring on the trip is sunglasses. The sunglasses will prevent you from squinting all day and will reduce the chances of eye damage. While people typically associate sunburn with the skin, a condition known as photokeratitis occurs when the eyeballs become sunburnt.

Along with sunglasses, consider wearing a hat. A hat brim will provide more shade to your face. The hat itself will also protect your scalp. Bald patches and hairlines could easily burn with exposure to sunlight.

2. Wear Athletic Gear

Fishing is a true sport, and nothing will showcase that more than a chartered fishing trip. For example, you will likely feel the physical thrill that comes with reeling in a big fish. Treat fishing like a sport by wearing athletic gear. The lightweight gear feels comfortable on your body and allows you to easily move around the boat while you fish.

Many pieces of athletic gear are waterproof. So if you get wet, you will dry quicker and do not have to sit in damp clothes. Many pieces offer extra UV protection so parts of your body are blocked off from sunlight. Cooling technology will prevent you from sweating too much as well.

3. Add Extra Foot Comfort

Pair your athletic gear with extra foot comfort. If you have never been on a chartered fishing boat, you may not realize the long stretches of standing that may occur. When you prepare your feet, you can avoid extra pains later in the day. Wear comfortable athletic shoes with arch support. A sandal or flip-flop does not offer proper foot support while you stand and move.

Shop for thick and cushioned socks that provide extra comfort. If your feet tend to sweat a lot, then pack an extra pair of socks to switch into halfway through the trip. The second pair of socks add extra comfort and can make you feel refreshed.

4. Use Lemon-Scented Hand Wipes

If you choose to handle the fish that you catch, your hands will likely end up smelling like fish. Instead of waiting until you get home to properly clean your hands, pack some lemon-scented hand wipes or sanitizer in your bag. Look for ingredients like natural lemon juice.

Lemon juice is one of the best ways to get rid of a fish smell. The acids in the juice can eliminate the odors and help your hands smell clean. If you cannot find a proper lemon wipe, then consider packing a small bottle of lemon juice with some washcloths.

The cleaning process is ideal if you plan to eat lunch and do not want to smell fish with every bite you take.
