Updated: - Wednesday, March 10, 2010

SEASON Start Date has been changed to Friday, March 19th due to the cold water, and the high winds expected this coming week.

Captain Terrell is closely monitoring the water temperature, and has been informed today by commercial fishermen (who fish in much deeper water than the Princess) that the catch has been very limited due to the extremely cold water.  We know that our anglers are experiencing severe CABIN FEVER, but due to the unusual weather conditions experienced this winter the water has not warmed up yet, so we are going to wait another week to start.  As eager as the Captain is  to get back out on the water, he also wants to ensure that the conditions are favorable for you to be able to catch fish. He will continue to monitor and adjust the schedule accordingly.  Spring IS around the corner, and we are looking forward to a great season!

Now is the time to plan your 2010 fishing trips and get your name on the 18 Hour trips! Click on:  Season Passes  to check out the savings available for each trip type for 5,10,15, or 20 trips, and the Annual Pass for UNLIMITED Bottom Fishing!

Do you have a Special Event this year?  Let us host your group for fishing or cruising the coast!  A great way to celebrate, entertain, reward, or just have a great time with friends!  Give us a call for more information.  We also charter for Memorial trips and Scattering of Ashes.

The office is on winter hours.  We check phone messages and emails often during the day.  Please leave us a message and we will return your call.  If you do not hear from us, we were unable to reach you on the tel. # or email address left, so please contact us again. Thank you.

 * Walk ups are welcome on most trips.  We strongly advise checking by phone if the trip is running and space is available. Trips are closed when maximum number is reached, canceled if minimum is not met, or when Offshore Weather is bad.  Reserving your spots helps us to determine if the minimum number needed to go has been reached, preventing a possible cancellation of your trip

Message from the Captain Minimize

Hello Fishing Friends,

The Carolina Princess has been a well known name around the Carolinas from the 1960's to the present. From our first trip 47 years ago on the original Carolina Princess, to the current Carolina Princess, we have always been a premiere force in "Headboat" fishing by providing the very best in bottom and sport fishing with a flair that gives our fishing friends the utmost in service. From the time you talk to our office staff until you disembark the "Princess"  you will be treated "just like family". Our primary goal is to make sure your fishing experience with us is the most memorable and enjoyable day on the ocean that can be offered. Our knowledgeable and friendly boat crew will be there to help with anything you need while you are onboard.

This is my personal promise to you folks. The staff and crew of the Carolina Princess will do everything we can to ensure you have a fishing experience that will create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime! The way I look at it, the best recommendation that anyone can give us is "we went fishing on the Carolina Princess and we were treated like royalty". So go ahead and give us a call, send an e-mail, or use our new interactive reservation calendar to reserve your day of great fishing with us!

Fishermen's Rally, Washington, DC, Feb. 24th Minimize

Fishermen's Rally on Washington, Feb. 24th

“The overly restrictive management requirements created by the RMSA (revised Magnuson Stevens Act) — based on non-scientific arbitrary deadlines — are forcing anglers off the water, eliminating commercial fishing, preventing consumers from purchasing locally-caught fresh seafood, destroying small family businesses, increasing unemployment, and adversely affecting coastal communities,” Capt. Bob Zales II of the Conservation Cooperative of Gulf Fishermen in Orange Beach, Ala.

"For years, Congress has allowed regional councils such as the Charleston-based South Atlantic Fishery Management Council to set regulations on fishing limits. But federal lawmakers recently put more stringent requirements on these groups to stop over-fishing on any species considered endangered.

It has put the SAFMC, which used to weigh economic and recreational factors with scientific data when setting limits, into a position of just shutting down entire fisheries. Right now, there is a ban on red snapper for 180 days with an option to renew for additional 186. After that, some say the prohibition could stretch out for years.

Now, the law calls for immediate closures whenever scientists determine there is a problem with any species. Fisherman say the new rules don't allow time for scientists to collect sufficient data to accurately estimate how many red snapper, or any other fish, are out there. The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC

This is not just a problem for Fishermen.  Anyone who enjoys seafood caught in the USA is in danger of losing their ability to purchase fresh local seafood, and of having it on  the menu in their favorite restaurants.  There are Senators and Representatives who are aware of the magnitude of this problem and are trying to make a change, but they need everyone's support.

Update on Fisheries Management Regulations - Sunday, November 22, 2009

Dear Fishing Friends,

There have been a lot of questions asked by callers to the office about the   closure of the Vermilion Snapper (B-Liner) fishery, and the closure of the Sea Bass Fishery north of Cape Hatteras.  On November 1st. the recreational Vermilion Snapper (B-liner) fishery in our area was closed by the NMFS.  On January 1st., the recreational fishery for ALL Grouper species was closed.  These closures will be in effect until April 2010.  The Sea Bass closure north of Cape Hatteras does not affect us in any way.

While these closures are in effect we will still be running trips for all the other species of fish (triggerfish, sea bass, red mouth grunts, silver snapper, etc.) that we normally catch on our trips.

Folks, if all of us do not start writing our Congressmen, Senators, President, and others with influence outside of the Marine Fisheries regulation process, there will be a time in the not too distant future when you will not be able to fish for, or retain, anything that you catch due to the inflexible and over regulated changes in the Magnuson/Stevens Act that puts all the chips in the hands of the government regulators.  This is not what this great country of ours was based on.  I get the most pleasure taking you fishing and I know you enjoy the experience yourself.  Let's work together to keep these rights intact, and to help stop bad regulations that are based on a flawed science.

Good Fishing,

Capt. Terrell Gould
