| Comments: | Rodney made an impression on me with his sense of humor and always finding something (or someone) to laugh about. Even over the last two years, he would smile his beautiful smile despite his circumstances or how he was feeling that day. He liked to stay busy and keep mama busy with all of the plans he made to go here and there and everywhere. He had even planned to go to the library and vote the day before his hospitalization. He wanted to make sure his vote counted because he felt strongly about who he wanted to win. Despite everything that had happened to him and the adversities he had to face, he enjoyed living and making plans for the future ( which included working on the Princess again). Hopefully we can all inherit some of his joy and contentment especially in this time of loss. Miss ya brother. Teresa |

| Comments: | I made the trip from New York to fish the Carolina Princess many times. Rodney was the mate you could turn to for help. He was always willing to help you and he made you feel welcome asking him. I will miss his professionalism and may his soul rest in peace. The good ones always seem to go young. Godspeed. |

| Comments: | My Precious Son: There will never be words that can take away the pain that is in my heart. I never thought that God would take you away before me. Thank you so much for all your love, support and for loving your family as you did. Your Brother Dwayne and Sister Teresa are handling their pain of the loss of a Brother in their way and it is not easy for them. Your Nieces and Nephew loved you and enjoyed you being by their side and they will never forget you. But...the hurt a Mother feels losing a child is unbearable and never forgotten. You were and still are my special Son that loved the Sea, his Captain Woo, and the mates that worked with him, all the cooks that you worked with, all your fishing friends and Teresa, the present cook on the Carolina Princess. Teresa is your adopted Sister that has stood by you from the very first day. Captain Terrell's family became our second family to us,we thank them so much for being by our side. Many thanks to Captain Terrell, Rilla and Julia for everything. I don't know what I would have done if the three of you had not took over and handled all for me at the Carolina Princess. You three are really true friends to Rodney and me. Thanks goes to Captain Woo's Wife, Margaret, for being there by our side also since February 15th, 2007 and for all the support and love that you have shown. You never got to fish with Captain Terrell on the Carolina Princess, you did have the pleasure of mating with him for a blue fin tuna trip on the Harriett L. Special thanks to Amos and Robert for being Rodney's mates with him, truly two mates that hold special memories to Rodney. Rodney and I loved you all so very much and will never, never forget any of you. There are too many special people that touched out hearts while we worked for the Carolina Princess, many thank you's go out to all of them for sharing their lives with us. | Comments: | A Tribute to a wonderful friend and Hero.
What a pleasure it is to have known Rodney. When I first joined the Princess team, Rodney was down south and Woo kept telling me. ''Just wait until you met Rodney''. Well I waited and waited. The day came when Rodney came on board and Woo couldn''t wait for us to meet.It was important to Woo that everyone on the boat got along with each other.Rodney and I hit it off. On the very first day I could tell he was a person of his word. He was a hard worker and he did everything possible to make sure everyone had a good day of fishing.
He always met you with a smile and a kind word.He often called me his sister because I kept reminding him that he had to make sure I got back to the dock safe and sound. For his caring ways I would make him birthday cakes on the boat and we would all celebrate or cook his favorite meal coming in from an 18 hour tour. Not only was Rodney a good mate but a hero. Once coming in he notice a man on the top deck laying down and not moving for a long time. Rodney tried to wake him but no response. The man was having a heat stroke in the middle of the ocean. Rodney and I applied ice packs in different areas and sure enough the man came around and lived.Once while we were out in the gulf, Rodney heard a beeping sound similar to a UPS truck backing up.Come to find out it was an alarm sounding to tell you the boat was taking in water on the stern.I am soo grateful he heard that and made Woo aware of the situation.
One of Rodneys gift was to fool you by walking behind you and touching the end of your pole. That little touch would make you think you had a fish on.He loved to joke around with Jack, Patrick, Henry, Bobby...to name a few.
Rodney loved his Mother like no one I have any seen. Days when we would be in due to bad weather Rodney would stay home to do things for his mother. He could always rely on her for not only the best lunch box, but to be on the dock at his arrival to greet him and see how his day went. He loved his family, off shore he would often talk about his family and his brown eyes would sparkle when he spoke of them. There are many people just not here in Carteret County but around the world that was touch by Rodney. I picture him, Woo, and George sitting on a dock, fishing poles in hand looking down at us and saying. Don''t cry, we hurt no more. We are at peace and may peace be with each one of you. Those are just a few of the wonderful times spent aboard the Carolina Princess with Rodney.
Rodney, may you sit back now and rest. Your job on earth is down and when I cast my rod to the sea I will think of you and your voice saying ...FISH ON !! YEAH BABY....May God bless your Mother and family during this time. |

| Comments: | Rodney was the cutest little fellow when he was born. As he was growing up, he had this beautiful smile and the most beautiful dark eyes I had ever seen. When he was learning how to walk, we couldn't stop laughing as he had those cute little chubby legs and it was hard for him to balance himself. But he never stopped smiling. He thought he was doing something great. And he was. I will always keep those special and wonderful memories of him within my heart. I love you.

IN MEMORY of RODNEY FLETCHER
|
 |
|
Rodney passed away at 10:00 AM Sunday September 28th 2008.
This brings great sadness to all who knew and loved him. He was a young man with a warm heart, gentle soul, and a smile and grin as wide as the ocean that he loved so much.
All of us at the Carolina Princess will miss him deeply. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with his mother, "Miss Bonnie", his sister Teresa, brother Dwayne, and his nieces and nephew.
Scattering of ashes was at Cape Lookout on October 31st.
